Motherwort's leaves are dark green and hairy, with a strongly bitter flavor. The scientific name Leonurus relates to the leaves' whimsical resemblance to a lion's tail. According to one strange Hindu legend, if you make a tea of motherwort and add it to the laundry when you wash your socks and underwear, you will live forever.
