Description

Profile: Quercus alba is a North American native. White oak's light-colored wood gives it its name. Astringent white oak bark is helpful. Baths, washes, infusions, and tinctures use white oak bark.

Details:

Quercus originates from the Celtic words quer (fine) and cuez (tree). It's Fagaceae.

The roots' strong odor has been compared to sweaty socks. Cats are drawn to the aroma like catnip, biting and rubbing on the root. The Pied Piper of Hamelin reportedly used valerian to lure rats out of town.
