Profile: As one species of a genus of wildcrafted herbs related to eyebright herb that grows wild throughout the Northern Hemisphere, Euphrasia officinalis proper is endemic to Great Britain. Euphrasia officinalis is a "parasite," or one of a group of naturally occurring herbs and other plants that feeds off the roots of other plants, including grasses; interestingly, it resists most attempts at cultivation unless there are other plants for it to feed on.
The plant was traditionally used fresh, with the root being cut off so that the milk could be gathered.
In Britain, this is also one among the herbs used in the herbal cigarettes that are smoked, albeit it is not a good idea to inhale any smoke.
It is urged that anyone buying bulk Eyebright herb for making homeopathic remedies use caution and seek the guidance of a certified herbalist or naturopath as any claims made for bulk herbs have not been verified by medical authorities.
