Most farmed oats are baled and sold as feed, but plenty is also grown for food and will be grown in bigger quantities as its health benefits become well known. Russia, Canada, the U.S., Australia, the Baltic Sea, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and Germany are major oat producers. Immature seeds should be harvested and tinctured the same day. Oatstraw contains iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamins, and other nutrients that nourish the body. This gentle restorative herb is for the cold, exhausted, tired, or persistently burnt-out. Oat grain is common in body washes and bath gels. Naturopath John Lust (nephew of naturopathic pioneer Benedict Lust) says oatstraw baths can treat specific ailments. For tired feet, he recommends an oatstraw bath.
Dried oatstraw can be used in bath and body preparations, as tea, or as an extract.
