Description
Profile: Senna is a pea family plant that is native to northern Egypt. It has long, spreading branches and yellow flowers that develop into rectangular, flat fruits. Due to their therapeutic characteristics, senna leaves and pods have a long history of use in traditional healing methods.

They are occasionally used for their moderate laxative effects; the leaf is thought to be more effective than the pods in this regard. Senna alexandrina leaves used to make our senna powder are all organic. Senna leaf powder works well in extracts, topical treatments, and capsules.
By suppressing the smooth muscles that hold onto stool and increasing the smooth muscles that push stool through the colon, senna promotes bowel movement. The plant is ineffective unless the sennosides are converted by helpful bacteria in the colon into rheinanthrones.
