Profile: The Rubiaceae family includes the majestic evergreen known as yohimbe, which is also spelt as johimbi. This tree, which is indigenous to lowland forests in western and central Africa, has oval-shaped leaflets that are arranged in threes and a grey to reddish-brown bark.

Yohimbe bark has a long history of use in traditional West African herbalism as a reproductive stimulant. Yohimbine, an alkaloid believed to be responsible for many of the plant's beneficial properties, is found in the bark. Since then, yohimbine has been created in a lab and is now marketed as a prescription medication. Yohimbe bark powder sold by Mountain Rose Herbs should not be confused with yohimbine that has been artificially produced.
Our yohimbe bark powder is created from bark that has been wild-harvested, and common applications include tincturing as a liquid extract, encapsulating, and mixing it into smoothies or other drinks.
