The Iroquois and Algonquin-speaking Indians of present-day Ontario, Quebec, New York, and New England employed goldenseal leaf, also known as Hydrastis canadensis, as one of their main therapeutic herbs. A powdered form of dried goldenseal leaf was used for administration.
