Description
Profile: Benzoin is a tree native to Southeast Asia, China, and Indonesia, where it grows in tropical regions. For generations, benzoin resin has been prized for its comforting, vanilla-like aroma. Because of its pleasant aroma, benzoin gum powder is frequently used in perfume and incense blends, but it can also be utilized as a stabilizer and fixative.
Details:
You may recall the omnipresent jar of "tincture of benzoin" kept on an office shelf if you visited the family doctor 40 or more years ago. The benzoin tree is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia, China, and Indonesia. The resin is obtained by making triangle incisions into the tree's bark to generate a flow, which subsequently hardens into lumps when exposed to air and sunshine. It has a vanilla-like aroma and ranges in color from pale yellow to red brown. In the perfume industry, benzoin is utilized as an antioxidant, stabilizer, and fixative. When the humidity changes, it can sometimes harden.
