Description

Profile: A bramble bush of the rose family, blackberry. Tea blends use the leaves, which have a little sweet and grassy flavor. The sifted and chopped leaves can also be used to make potpourri and herbal baths.

Details:

Sun-ripened, delicious blackberries are immediately discernible. Rubus fruticosus is used for its health benefits. Blackberry leaves make a delicious, astringent herbal tea tonic. Blackberry leaf is used in toners, washes, lotions, etc.

Blackberries grow on bushy vines in little clusters called drupelets. Because of its thorns, this plant is called bramble in Britain. Unchecked, blackberry brambles can grow invasive. Many earth-based and Wiccan religions say blackberry leaves can return evil to its sender and banish evil spirits from your home. After Michaelmass (September 29), blackberries should not be harvested since the devil urinated on their leaves, claiming them. After this date, wetter and cooler temperatures allow molds like Botryotinia to infiltrate the fruit, giving it an unattractive look and possibly toxicity.
