Description

Profile: The plant Inula helenium can be found growing across Europe, western Asia, and northwestern India. Elecampane is recognized for its big, aromatic roots, vivid yellow daisy-like blossoms, and height. Elecampane root has been utilized in traditional European herbalism for its medicinal effects since ancient Greece. The root can be used as a spice, infused, tinctured, or used to herbal syrups.

Details: Elecampane is a plant related to sunflowers and ragweed that is native to southern and eastern Europe but has become naturalized all over the world. Helen of Troy was stolen from Sparta and brought the flowers with her when Paris snatched her. Large, pointed leaves with downy gray undersides and yellow summer flowers characterize this 6- to 8-foot tall plant. Elecampane is a part of a nine-herb bath blend that is claimed to provide protection from witches and is said to boost psychic powers and works requiring scrying.

Mountain Rose Herbs' Elecampane roots are dug from 2- to 3-year-old plants, dried, and trimmed.
