Description

Profile: Hardy perennial Solidago gigantea can be found in pastures, meadows, and on mountain slopes. Goldenrod, originally from Europe and Asia, has since spread naturally over North America. The shrub has alternate leaves and panicles of golden blooms. Both liquid extracts and infusions of the herb goldenrod are frequently utilized.

Details:

The perennial plant known as goldenrod is native to Europe and Asia but has become established in North America. It is a tough plant that thrives in pastures and on mountain peaks. The Latin word "solidare," which means "to make whole," is the source of the botanical name Solidago. The plant, an Asteraceae member, has alternate leaves and panicles of golden flowers on top. It is 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 cm) tall. After the Boston Tea Party, the colonists in the Americas brewed a tea from goldenrod and named it "Liberty Tea" as they had just given up their beloved libation. Additionally, it was employed by the colonists as a dye. Other myths claim that the stem can be used as a divining tool and that when it grows close to a home, the residents will be lucky.

Traditionally consumed as tea and occasionally sold in tea bags. Drinking the tea in between meals is advised. Possibly used as a pill or extract if powdered.
