Description

Profile: Pulmonaria officinalis, a plant from the borage family, is mainly grown in cultivation, though it can occasionally be spotted in woodland areas in eastern and western Europe. A perennial herb, lungwort has characteristic white-spotted leaves and tiny clusters of pink blooms. Since the Middle Ages, the herb has been utilized for its therapeutic properties in conventional European healing methods. Typically, lungswort is injected for topical treatments.

Details: In its natural settings, lungwort is one of the first plants to bloom in the early spring. It was worn as a defense against the evil eye and was occasionally referred to as the "Herb of Mary." It was employed as part of a formula to determine whether or not someone was a witch. A member of the Boraginaceae family is lungwort.
