Description

Profile: Yucca glauca is an evergreen perennial with a basal rosette of long, thin leaves. Yucca is a plant native to Central America that grows on arid soils from the Canadian prairies to southern Texas. The blooms and seed pods of the plant are consumed as food, the leaves are used in weaving, and the roots are used for their medicinal properties. Saponins are found in yucca root, which has also been used as a soap, earning it the name soapweed.
