Osha grows in Rocky Mountain and Southwest meadows. Apiaceae, or carrot family, reflects its look. Osha's leaves resemble parsley and have hollow, reddish stems. In deep, damp soils, the plants develop 6 to 7-foot clumps. Its fibrous, bitter, pungent root is dark brown and wrinkled.
Native Americans named this plant "osha" because bears tend to like it. Bears typically dribble osha on their fur after hibernation. Multiple herbal medicines contain Ligusticum porteri. Tea, syrup, powder, or tincture are frequent uses. This respected herb is great for the respiratory system and has numerous health advantages.
