Profile: Passion flower is a perennial, climbing vine endemic to the southeastern U.S.
Passion flower vines can reach 9.2 meters long. It has alternating, toothed lobes. White flower centers are purple.
5 petals, sepals, stamens, 3 stigmas, and filaments cap Passiflora flowers. Egg-shaped, pulpy fruit with tiny seeds.
Details: Young delicate passionfruit leaves can be used raw in salads or cooked in quiches, curries, stir fries, soups, or pastas as a spinach-like green. Vitamin A and niacin are found in them. The dried leaves are utilized in herbal treatments and relaxing teas.
Passionflower is now sold as a dietary supplement for anxiety, sleep issues, pain, heart rhythm issues, menopausal symptoms, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It's used on the skin to treat burns and hemorrhoids.
