Raspberry leaves have a taste similar to black tea, but without caffeine. The Olympian gods supposedly discovered raspberries on Mount Ida. Palladius, a Roman agriculturist, first domesticated raspberries. By the Middle Ages, it was utilized in paintings and illuminated manuscripts. King Edward the 1st (1272-1307) is credited with popularizing vast raspberry growing in Europe. The British Herbal Compendium approves of raspberry leaf teas administered to Cherokee, Iroquois, and Mohawk women.
Pour 1 cup (240 ml) of boiling water over 1-3 grams of dried raspberry leaf. Close the teapot for 10 minutes, then sweeten to taste. Warm drink. Raspberry "stabilizes" many herbal teas. Rarely capsuled.
