Description
Profile: The states of Washington and Oregon in the Pacific Northwest, as well as the province of British Columbia in Canada, are a part of a larger bioregion known as Cascades, which extends north from Southeastern Alaska to Northern California and east to Western Alberta and the Rocky Mountain region of Montana. The Native Americans who lived in the area employed a variety of species, including Thuja plicata, or Western Red Cedar Tips, as medicinal herbs. This special portion of the world is home to many of these species.
Details:
Among the Salish, Makah, and Tlingit peoples, Thuja plicata was practically the center of culture in addition to being a significant Native American herb and being utilized for everything from clothing to houses. (Interestingly, some secessionists who want to leave the US and Canada suggest using the Thuja plicata's horizontal blue, white, and green tricolor as the symbol of a free Cascadian republic.)
The natural herb derived from the foliage is referred known as Western Red Cedar Tips. You can make tea with dried Western Red Cedar Tips, and you can also take capsules with powdered Western Red Cedar Tips. This organic bulk herb's medicinal value has not been examined or established by scientific research. The Cascadia region values thuja plicata wood for its resilience to rot and mold; historically, thuja plicata volatile oils were also utilized as a repellant.
