Profile: Dulse is a red seaweed with a sweet flavor and mild taste that tends to thrive in tidal areas in chilly Atlantic Ocean waters. Our dulse is made from Palmaria palmata, a plant commonly used to thicken soups and stews. Even smoothies can be made with this seaweed powder to help hide some of the typical marine flavor.
Details: Red seaweed known as dulse is harvested in the chilly waters off the coasts of Ireland and Norway as well as the Atlantic coast of North America. On rocks, shells, and the larger, longer brown seaweeds, its fronds develop in tidal environments. Dulse can be used as a soup thickener, dried, roasted, fried, or raw food. Dulse, commonly known as dillisk, is a member of the Palmariaceae family. Dulse is a superb source of iodine and a great source of minerals and phytochemicals.
