Description
Profile: Elder is a blooming perennial plant with a long history of use, ranging from its medicinal benefits to the hollowed stems, which resemble a pipe, being used to blow up fires. Flowers of Sambucus nigra and S. ebulus are pure diaphoretics that are widely utilized in elder flower teas and herbal infusion mixtures. Elder flowers have long been used to flavor ales, cordials, vinegars, and even water. Elderflower has also been used as a cosmetic ingredient in the past.
Details:
Elder is a plant that grows wild throughout much of Europe, North America, and southwest Asia. Its blooms and berries have been used in traditional European medicine for centuries. Elderberries have also been used to make jams, wines, and winter cordials, as well as to flavor and color other wines. Elder blossoms or berries are most typically used for their medicinal properties. Fresh fruits are less bitter than dried ones. The little stem that is sometimes left on the berry is safe, even when the branches and leaves are deadly. Elder was once classified as a member of the Caprifoliaceae family, then the Adoxaceae family, and finally the Viburnaceae family.
Elderberries are good for your immune system.
