Over 220 species in Malvaceae's Hibiscus genus. Hibiscus plants flourish in most tropical climates, with a minority able to tolerate freezing temperatures. Tropical species can't survive more than a few days of frigid temperatures. Hibiscus blossoms are colorful. Rosale and ambashthaki.

Hibiscus blooms are used to make pleasant teas throughout Mexico, Latin America, and North Africa. Agua de Jamaica, or Jamaica in Mexico, is served cold with sugar to sweeten the hibiscus' tartness.

Although hibiscus is occasionally planted solely for decorative purposes, it is also well known for its culinary and medicinal uses. The blossom can be eaten straight from the plant, although it's most commonly used in teas, relishes, jams, and salads. Hibiscus tea is consumed by many civilizations for its medicinal benefits.
